Tulsa Plant Recipe #23: Hot-Pink azalea with Citronella Heuchera

Hot-Pink Azalea with Citronella Heuchera

Hot-Pink with this brilliant green, its hard to compete. The Heuchera are in full new growth and best color at the same time as the azalea is blooming. They both share the same needs as far as sun and water are concerned. What a dynamic combination and almost maintenance free.

Plant Recipe #22: The Mighty Coneflower in All It's Glory

Coneflowers are the Jolly Jokers of the Garden: well anyway I think so...

These Coneflowers/ Echinacea are so Jolly with there little petals pointing downward while there pin cushion faces look up towards the sun. They just make my happy looking at them. In this garden I paired them with some Sunny Border Blue.

Best Summer Color: New Wave Petunias and Butterfly Bush Tulsa Plant Recipe #21

New Wave Petunias and Butterfly Bush

New Wave Petunias add more color and drama then almost any other annual in our Tulsa pallet of plant color. They love our sun and heat and spread far and wide if given enough room. I planted them around the base of the Butterfly Bush to see how they would fare, along with a few Zinnias for contrast. Also in the background is a lilac colored Crape Myrtle. You can't go wrong with any of these for our summers. Heat + Sun = Color!!

Lime Rickey Heuchera and Blue Speedwell Tulsa Plant Recipe #20

Lime Rickey and Georgia Blue Speedwell

Lime Rickey Heuchera will hold its leaves through the winter, so when the electric blue speedwell flowers the colors create a rare display for so early in the season. They love a little sun preferably from the east till 11 in the morning. As the new foliage begins to mound on top of the heuchera you can gently cut off the older leaves that look worn and torn around its base. Plant these two beautys together for the earliest of spring color, and for more fun add a few early blooming tulips.
