Because roots grow during the dormant season. Plants emerge in spring with new growth(very soft and more delicate), harden off in the Summer( the new growth firms up and is well established), then&amp;nbsp; prepare to go into dormancy again....or go to sleep...In the fall, plants hardly know you are moving them.
